A 43-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after causing a crash on the MacKay bridge Thursday night.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a collision on the middle of the A Murray MacKay Bridge at 8:35 pm. Police say a man was driving a car from Dartmouth to Halifax when it crossed the centre line and struck a pickup truck head on.

Also in the car was a male passenger. The male driver was the lone occupant of the truck.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged and had to be removed by tow trucks.

There were no injuries in the accident.

Only one lane was open on the Bridge during the investigation, causing traffic delays.

The driver has been released and will appear in court at a later date.
